The Obsidian Monolith Podcast / Re: What do you think?
« Last post by LexStarwalker on August 22, 2014, 10:48:44 am »
I've never made an adventure for a supplement either. I've found that the considerations I have to make for podcasting it are similar (almost identical) as the ones for publishing it, so it's working out well.

I'm definitely going to be doing some anthropological things as part of the adventure. I've already designed two towns (one in Navarene and one in The Beyond) with their own customs. For me setting creation is a never-ending process. Every game I add bits here and there that I come up with on-the-fly during play. I've also been developing a culture for one of the species/creatures in Numenera that will be a big part of the beginning of the story. My intent with the campaign is to always go to new places that I will develop and include with the adventure.

Depending on how The Obsidian Monolith supplement does, I may do purely setting supplements in the future, with new peoples and places you can use in your game.

I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to start the second group through The Obsidian Monolith, but it's definitely going to happen. Shoot me an email at lexstarwalker@gmail.com so I can better keep track of who's interested.

I'll let you all know when I am able to run some one-shots.

Hi Lex, first of all I want to congratulate you for your podcast, I find it very informative and inspiring. I don't usually participate on online communities but hearing you say how awesome the numenera community is, made me want to try it out. So here I am!

It would be very cool to play with you. I gotta say I was listening to E45 when you said you were thinking of getting more playtesters for your campaing and I immediately thought I should stop listening before I get to any spoilers. I didn't though I wanted to listen your insight on campaign building.  :D

Well, let me know if you get anything prepared and maybe I can join. Btw, I guess it is probably obvious that english is not my native language, but I hope that's not an impediment.

Find a Game / Looking for Numenera one shot Online game

Hey Guys,

I am looking to learn some tricks of the GMing trade by joining some online game as a player and see what others do. I have GMed some Numenera adventures, but I have never played as a PC, so I am sure there is a lot for me to learn by the example. There aren't many roleplayers in my home town and the ones I know are a small group of players who started roleplaying with me. They don't seem to eager yet to GM, so I need to look elsewhere.

Does anyone have some spot for a new player?

Shownotes

There's a lot of goodness packed into this episode of GM Intrusions! Darcy Ross returns to the show, and we discuss our experiences as GMs of the Cypher System at Gen Con. We also discuss the amazing showing Numenera made at the ENies this year as well as Darcy's experience getting to play in a session of The Strange run by Bruce Cordell, the Precursor himself! I learned some interesting teasers about the future of Numenera at the con that I will share with you, including some information on the upcoming World Guide and what we can look forward to after that.

The Obsidian Monolith Podcast / Re: What do you think?

Huh. Never made a published adventure for anything myself. (Way back in 2e D&D I considered it with a mystery-style adventure I had run 3 times, but 3e destroyed the plot device that let it work.) Would definitely alter how I went about building an adventure.

For the campaign I'm doing now, I went with the Steadfast because I liked the background of the Gaian/Steadfast war as a backdrop to events. No kingdom of the Steadfast really stood out to me -- I'd have prefered far less crazy rulers, for one thing -- but I went with Thaemor due to poor status and proximity to the Beyond for PCs coming from that area. It fit the mayor's fanatical ambitions that the kingdom is poor and hemorrhaging 'troops' to support the war effort from towns that can't spare them. Hence PCs being hired as a catch-all 'do anything I ask. Please?' category for the mayor. While it is working out just fine, I have zero desire to expand the game further into the Steadfast and am really hoping the world guide does give more ideas on other places and potential stories set in them myself.

(Long term: the goal for my first campaign is for it to be a intro to the system/setting for everyone; my second one will be set some years later, with the previous PCs as legends/warnings/etc. and probably deal more with the war with the Gaians directly. Not sure yet; will depend on what players want to do.)

Definitely liking the podcasts: it's always interesting to see how other GMs approach making a series of adventures/settings for a game. Also seconding the idea of even a small pdf booklet of 'weird town/places/etc/' to find for GMs to use, via anthropology.

Find a Game / [PL] Anyone playing Numenera in Poland?
« Last post by JMM on August 20, 2014, 01:30:39 am »

= = =

Hey, recently I lead Numenera campaign in Łódź. Are there ani players / GMs from Poland here? We could think about playing together (if geography allows) or simply talk about our experience in playing the game in Ninth World.
